The International REC Standard (I-REC) is a global system that enables the certification of renewable energy for your company.
How does it work?
The consumer is based on the amount of energy he uses. Each REC represents a unit of renewable energy generation (1 REC = 1MWh).
Instituto Totum is the representative of the I-REC Standard in Brazil, being responsible for registering, supervising and auditing renewable energy generators, and therefore issuing I-REC’s to those authorized.

All the energy produced in the country is injected into the National Interconnected System (SIN) and passes through a transmission network to the place where it will be consumed.
When receiving energy from the grid, the consumer is unable to trace the physical origin of this energy, may it come from a renewable source or not.
The I-REC is a solution that changes that. With the certification, the consumer shows his commitment to a cleaner matrix, encouraging clean sources.
And this entire process is audited and validated by an independent institution, the Totum Institute, which represents global certification here in Brazil.
